1

Fresh Pond Reservation entrance

Starting point

walk0.54 mi · ~11 min

Head north along the paved perimeter from the main entrance. Shaded tree cover, wide enough for walkers and cyclists side by side, and the reservoir opens up on your left within the first few minutes. The path bends west toward Little Fresh Pond and its dog beach inlet.

Terrain: Paved path, shaded woods. No street crossings.

Along the way: Look for the inlet at Little Fresh Pond — a quiet pocket where dogs splash in the shallow water.

2

Little Fresh Pond Dog Beach

walk0.37 mi · ~7 min

North along the western shore. Quieter section with wetland views as the path curves around the northwest corner of the reservation, heading into Cambridge Highlands.

Terrain: Paved, mostly flat. Benches along the water side.

Along the way: The northwestern bend gives a long view back across the reservoir.

3

Cambridge Highlands (northwest)

walk0.25 mi · ~5 min

East across the north shore. The reservoir's deepest water is on your right, and the path stays well inside the reservation — Concord Ave hums distantly to the north.

Terrain: Paved path, open views over the water.

Along the way: Keep an eye on the water — red-winged blackbirds, herons, and the occasional osprey.

4

Cambridge Highlands (north)

walk0.32 mi · ~6 min

South along the eastern shore back to the entrance. The longest stretch of open water views as the path traces the reservoir's edge to close the loop.

Terrain: Paved, gentle downhill into the entrance plaza.

Along the way: Pause at the southeast bend for a last wide view back across the reservoir before the entrance.
